Allow me to introduce....

Yo, yo ,yo!!! This is Kendall checking in from the Bay Area. I'm an LA transplant living in SF, and I must admit that Nor CAl residents are up on the music scene. Up here, indie music might as well be mainstream. E.g., bars rock bands such as Passion Pit and Two Door Cinema Club; and when you ask who's playing, bartenders shoot you the "Please, you should know" look. WTF?

Anyways Delorean, a Spanish electro band, has kept me grooving late at night in the office while I'm on the grind. They're currently on tour with Miike Snow and of course the two April SF shows have been sold out since December.

Check out Delorean's latest, Stay Close, from their upcoming album Subiza, along with some of their sweet remix work.

Coachella countdown at 21

Coachella is pretty much the most significant SoCal music event of the year, and naturally your Music Lexecon authors are trying to be there, front and center. Unfortunately, our superiors don't necessarily view it with the same reverence. To some, "deadlines" are more important than getting baked (by the sun...) between Benassi and the DEVO reunion set.

So we'll try our best to change their minds, but in the meantime, I thought I'd feature a Coachella performer today. I'm personally looking forward to the Yeasayer set. The singles (O.N.E and Ambling Alp) off their latest album are pretty amazing. I'd check those out first if you haven't heard em, and below are some remixes (courtesty of Stereogum) that are also worthy of a listen.

Yeasayer - O.N.E. (XXXChange Remix)

Hey reader(s) , sorry but posts have been less frequent as we debate our next moves at Music Lexecon. We're debating about a move over to Wordpress, trying to find a better (faster, more reliable) way to host the music on the blog, and planning our response to some recent DMCA complaints. Plus, I'm not sure about other music bloggers, but we do have jobs.

In the meantime, here's a pretty dirty dubstep track from Joker. You'll have to go over to pitchfork to listen, but it's worth it.

Summer is almost here!

Nice job getting through another week in life! Here in LA the weather is feeling a bit more like summer and you can see in everyone's faces that good-times-are-a-coming.

Today we've got a song that combines two classics to bring in ahhhhh yeaaaaa summa summa summatime. Time to sit back and unwind (Fresh Prince anyone?):

The White Panda - Tipsy In The Sun (Weezer vs. J-Kwon Mash-Up)
Tipsy In The Sun by whitepandamusic

This track takes us back to Weezer's Green Album (2001) and J-Kwon's Tipsy (2004) but it sounds so fresh. This is a match made in mash-up heaven. :)

Have a good weekend!

PS. It was a music-video-heavy week with Gaga's Telephone and all, but... have you seen Hot Chip's I Feel Better video? Bomb (like that is so cool it's bomb) or bomb (like total fail sort of bomb)?

Hot Chip - I Feel Better

Hot Chip | MySpace Music Videos

Personally, it's a winner... but, judge for yourself.

Where The Gold At??!

,

I hope everyone had a good St. Patrick's day. As a member of the drinking-age society, St. Patrick's is one of the best holidays because, from what I'm concerned, it is a day that everyone needs to wear green, feign interest in things Irish, and drink green beer!

I thought on such a glorious day-after-St. Patrick's day, we could shower ourselves with upbeat house to rid ourselves of our hangovers. (Maybe we'll recover enough to track down that leprechaun that's been taunting us with it's pot-o-gold!) We've got a selection of oldies and newbies of pop-infused, disco-inspired, fidget, and electro house to suit anyone's sound palette.

David Guetta - Memories (feat Kid Cudi) (Armand Van Helden Vocal Remix)

This is a HOT HOT HOT track. The first minute or so of the track sounds like the original Cudi track, you're like aiight... but then Armand strings in some mad synths, cuts up the vocals, and you got this party banger. This is the kind of mix you can pre-party to, to transition from business casual to tightly-clad hipster on such a night as St. Patrick's.

Mike Posner – Cooler Than Me (Skeet Skeet Remix)

This song is for all of y'all who met someone last night that was acting like they were "cooler than you". But you know what, just dance those cares away and make a catchy song about it!

FUKKK OFFF – Love My Shake (NEUS Remix)

This song is for when you were dancing your cares away from the earlier scenario and you were totally burning up the dance floor, making that person who was acting like they were "cooler than you" tots jealous he/she didn't take down your number when he/she had the opportunity.

Chromeo – Bonafide Lovin’ (LA Riots Remix)

Then, not a boy/girl but a man/lady approaches you and tells you he/she can give you bonafied lovin'. Let's seal the deal. Isn't this a great track? For those of you unfamiliar with Chromeo: familiarize. They are sexy.

Calvin Harris - Stars Come Out (Rektchordz mix) & (Original mix)

I got a little wrapped up in my scenarios there... If you guys know the original of this song, you can feel how the remix is a total electro tease. It really relishes the moments before the chorus making you crave more. Both versions are good closers to an all-in-all good night.

If you are confused about the "Amateur Sketch" from above, please refer to this page and watch the video below.

Today's been an amazing lolz day for me.

1. Failed in-office piñata party.

2. Via Google Buzz, Chat Roulette Improv Piano Man:

Thank Alli!

3. Reincarnated Keyboard Cat which I think is onto something great!:

Since this is a music blog, I should post a song:

Computer Club feat. Frankmusik - Losing Streak

I'm Marina. You are the diamonds.

Marina Diamandis, stage name Marnia and the Diamonds, is not even a year older than me but she has done pretty good for herself. She was ranked number two on the BBC Sound of 2010 poll list, coming second to Ellie Goulding (who I think is overrated).

She started composing and producing using Garageband. Wait a second... I have Garageband! Oh yeah.. But what I don't have is her vocal range and that thing called talent? I think she's great and shouldn't be overlooked. Plus, she has a pretty face and odd artsy videos.

The original tracks are great but I am particularly a huge fan of some of the remixes that are floating out there in the blogosphere.

Marina and the Diamonds - Hollywood (Fenech-Soler Remix)

You know how a song is good but something happens and it makes it fabulous? For me that special moment happens when the song goes:

Oh my God
Oh my God, you look just like Shakira
No no, you’re Catherine Zeta
Actually, my name’s Marina
Your mind is just like mine
All filled up with things be-niiii-gn

The key change at the benign makes me feel a little levitation. Literally... Not only that, this song is the story of my life. If you don't live in Hollywood this may be foreign to you, but people are always telling me I look like Gisele Bundchen or Rachel McAdams. And I have to be like... Actually, my name's Yoshi. Such a crazy town...

Marina and the Diamonds - Mowgli's Road (Steve Wishes He Was A Man Cub Edit)

Oh LOOOOOOOOORD!
Levitation again.

Hope you enjoy as much as I do. Happy Monday after Pi day.

we started in the alley, now we chill in Cali

Check out these HIGH tops. Plus, here's a little old school/new school mash up to kick off the weekend.

I can be a freak!

David Guetta has gone a little disgustingly mainstream within the past year but he can still bust out some floor-burning tracks. This is a song from Estelle produced by Guetta that I can totally relate to (lol) and most likely would be played in Snooki's bedroom as she gets ready for a nasty night out.

- First off, who knew Guetta could do Baltimore club sounds. He slapped those cuts to us sick. Time to bust out the b-more steps.

- Secondly, I could have sworn that Missy was a guest on the track. I mean... is there really a need to repeat the really un-"fly", shiny pantsuit with a questionable bowl-cut look?
(On that thought... where in the world has Missy Elliott gone? I hope you read that part while imagining the theme song to Carmen San Diego.)

- Thirdly, there's a major throwback to the classic 90's track Back to Life from Soul II Soul.

All in all I'm digging the track. If you would prefer a version without the 90's throwback, check out the remix:

Estelle feat. Kardinall Offishall - Freak (Danny G Pop Art Remixxx)

Let me chronicle Guetta tracks just so we're on the same page:

In case you felt jipped of your Snooks, here you go:

Beyond Fantasy

Pictureplane is a bro from Denver like myself, except that he turns 80s classics into eery dubstep and throws raves in the warehouse where he lives. I guess that's something to aspire to. I like the dark aesthetic on this stellar (brand new!) track.

Pictureplane - Beyond Fantasy

And since we didn't exist when this song dropped last year, I feel I must re-post it because it of its general awesomeness.

Pictureplane - Goth Star

I hope this doesn't spoil the fun, but here is the sample.

today's lol: gravity fail

I'm not inspired enough to write an entry today... I do have something funny to show you though. (Note: Patience is a virtue. I feel like you actually have to be watching the video to get it):

I can't stop laughing. Poor girl...

Pance Party Dance Party

The YAY-area boys know how to throw down the beat and apparently have a sense of humor. The Team America samples in the teaser for their album, Kim Jong Thrill, are pretty comical.

Pance Party - Kim Jong Thrill EP Teaser

Their Chester French remix of C'mon is accompanied by a pretty funny video too....

Chester French - C'mon (Pance Party Remix)

...which inevitably reminds me of All Your Base Are Belong To Us (oh, good ol' meme)...

Anyway, if you're in LA and dig the music, hopefully see you on Friday night (3/12/10) at the Avalon!

California!

There's been a lot of talk about the gridlock in Washington recently. Polarization is clogging up the legislation process and our debt in ballooning. Nationally, things are starting to look alot like California.

What's more, Jerry Brown is running for governor again! Though I doubt he'll fix our great state, his campaign gives this punk classic new relevance.

Simpler can be better

It's back to the Rock & Roll basics with this track from Bristol duo Malachai. I'm loving the heavy guitar riffs and scant production; it's straight out of the White Stripes' playbook.

Download: Malachai - Snowflake

Their album, Ugly Side of Love, dropped Feb 2nd, so we're admittedly a little behind the curve here, though I imagine they''ll be getting some more attention after playing SXSW later this month. Here's a darker track with the same lo-fi feel, but this time with more hip-hop influences.

Why don't you... Gramophonedzie?

While gallivanting through the usual spots on a typical LA night, some DJ (I wish I could remember who...) dropped this bomb-diggity track by Gramophonedzie.

Gramophonedzie - Why Don't You

Jazz-inspired house like this reminds me of Mr. Scruff which you've probably heard in those Cadillac commercials. Those Cadillac commercials came out when I was still in high-school though, so there are definitely noticeable new twists in Gramophonedzie's track. You got to love the way he cuts up the vocals. Enjoy the video which annoyingly holds some relevance to the modern high unemployment rate.

brandUn DeShay

Now, I'm no expert on rap these days... but, I DO know that our society considers Kid Cudi a hiphop star and there's something wrong with that. Love the kid, don't get me wrong... Just isn't a rapper in the true sense. This song by brandUn DeShay has got some flavor. Reminds me of good ol' Black Star. Nice job The Super 3 for production on this track.
